I was happy to visit Nudge (link in FIN) yesterday for an opening event in the early afternoon. Nudge is a cooperative of five entrepreneurs, all of whom have their own approach to sustainable living. Nudge opened originally in 2010, and re-opened now in 2012 with a polished concept and a renovated store.
The shop covers ecological cosmetics by BioNature, ecological and ethical fashion by Yalo, kid’s clothes by Nosh Organics, house decor and accessories by Kolme ja Puoli, and to top it all: fresh rice paper rolls, good coffee and delicious wine by Rulla (all links in FIN, sorry).
This is how it looks from the outside. On the right, you can see the Rulla restaurant area with its carefully selected wines (by one the leading Finnish wine experts Antti Rinta-Huumo, btw). They have 20 seats and you also get take-away and deliveries. Needless to say, those rice paper rolls are super delicious.
The couple behind Rulla restaurant worked in Australia some time ago, happened to meet a certain Miss Chu, the queen of rice paper rolls, who happens to be originally from Luang Prabang in Laos. Anyway, after developing the idea a bit further, Marko and Tiina brought the concept to Finland to make us all happy. My taste buds got a walk down the memory lane with the rolls: the year spent in Laos came back to me in just one mouthful.
When you step in and look towards the street, you see clothes, cosmetics, accessories and house decor. Looks airy and cosy!
The overall feeling of the newly renovated and opened place was very positive, people were smiling and talking in a relaxed way. If you ever have had doubts about stepping in to a smaller store, well, with Nudge, you can just forget them. Take a cup of coffee, look around and take it easy. They do, too.
I’m not going to share any detailed product photos, feel free to visit the company websites for a better look – it’s worth it. However, I will have to mention that those Yalo ladies have again exceeded themselves with their selection of clothes. They have included many new Finnish brands e.g. Muka Va, Nurmi, Second Chance and Month of Sundays, and of course all the goodies they’ve had all the time, like Alchemist and Kuyichi. I did invest in a new black dress, I don’t exactly know how it happened.
How is it that Camilla Norrback makes such cool clothes? What I bought was a lovely, lovely Lotta dress, 100% bamboo.
♣ In the meantime: I got almost hit by a car today. It was a very close call and I’m happy to still be here, safe and sound, but slightly shaken. That young bloke speeding, I hope he does not need another lesson.
