Beautiful stranger

I spent the last weekend with friends in a log cabin some 100 km North of Helsinki. The cabin could actually be called a villa, it’s a wonderful place with all modern amenities like electricity and running water.

On Sunday morning, I woke up and looked outside. The greatest, whitest and thickest fog was surrounding us. It wasn’t the usual greyness we get, it was more clearly white. Like a veil hanging on top of everything.

I’m not quite sure I’ve ever seen anything like this. Maybe the fog yes, but never in such a beautiful pine forest. It’s magical.

You can still see the last greens on the ground, it’s not quite frozen yet.

Normally there’s a view to a large lake, but now, you could only see the closest trees. The dead pine looked very majestic in the middle of everything.

To me, this doesn’t really even look like a Finnish forest. It looks strange, beautiful, magical and so calm you can almost hear the silence. And that’s how it was: still and peaceful.

♥ In the meantime: Origin of the oil spill on the coast of Helsinki still remains a mystery. And when I say coast, it really is right in front of us. The small islands where people go to relax in the summer are just some hundred meters away from the shore.
